This Privacy Policy describes how Texton ("we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our on-device text-to-speech application ("App"). Texton is designed to keep your voice and text data on your device.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Text and Document Data You Provide

Texton processes the following information entirely on your device:

• Text input: Text you type or paste into the app for speech synthesis.
• Imported documents: PDF, EPUB, DOCX, and TXT files you select through the system file picker. These are parsed locally to extract text for reading aloud.
• Reading history: A local record of synthesized items (text preview, language, voice style, date) stored for your convenience.
• Bookmarks: Text snippets and positions you bookmark within documents.

1.2 Voice and Audio Data

• Voice recordings: If you use the voice cloning feature, Texton records a short audio sample using your device microphone. The recording is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded to any server.
• Mixed voice profiles: Custom voice styles you create by blending existing voices are saved as local JSON files on your device.
• Exported audio: WAV files you export from synthesized speech are saved to a location you choose on your device.

1.3 App Settings

• Preferences: Language, voice style, speech speed, denoising steps, silence duration, theme, reading font, and other settings are stored locally.
• Wi-Fi-only setting: You can choose to download TTS models only over Wi-Fi to avoid mobile data charges.

1.4 Model Download (One-Time)

• Hugging Face: The app connects to huggingface.co to download ONNX model files and voice style data. Only file download requests are made; no user content is uploaded.

3. How We Use Information

4. Data Storage and Security

• Local storage: Texton stores all user data — history, bookmarks, cloned voices, mixed voices, and settings — in a local Hive database on your device.
• On-device synthesis: All text-to-speech processing runs locally using ONNX Runtime. No text or audio is sent to a server for processing.
• No developer-held database: We do not run a central server that stores your text, voice recordings, or documents.
• No account required: Texton works fully offline after the initial model download. No login or registration is needed.

5. Third-Party Services

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your text, voice recordings, documents, or usage data with any third party. Data leaves your device only in the following case:

• Initial download of TTS model files from Hugging Face. No user-generated content is included in these requests.

7. Your Rights and Choices

• No account needed: Use Texton without creating an account or providing personal information.
• Offline use: After models are downloaded, the app works fully offline.
• Delete local data: Clear history, bookmarks, and cloned voices from within the app, or uninstall the app to remove all on-device data.
• Control exported files: Audio files you export are saved to locations you choose. You can delete them at any time.
• Microphone control: You can deny microphone access. Voice cloning features will be unavailable, but all other features work normally.

8. Children's Privacy

Texton is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
